Dermal Filler FAQ

Dermal Filler FAQ. Dermal fillers are commonly used as a beauty enhancement procedure. Our frequently asked questions (FAQ) will provide you with further information.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers are mainly used to soften and often reverse fine lines and wrinkles and hence, rejuvenate the face. An increasingly common area of treatment for dermal fillers is to redefine the lip border and soften or eradicate peri oral lines (smokers lines). Dermal fillers can be used to shape and revolumise the lips to help restore a beautiful smile and a more confident appearance. The natural aging of the face results in both the formation of fine lines, and a change in the contours of the face, both of which can be treated with Dermal fillers to restore a youthful appearance. The current trend in the use of dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation is that of revolumising. See our Dermal Fillers - Liquid Face Lift page for more information on revolumising. By placing hyaluronan dermal fillers deeper beneath the skin, we can build up lost volume in the cheeks to restore your natural “triangle of beauty”, and in doing so restore your more youthful and natural look through improving contour and volume and addressing residual fine lines and wrinkles. The ultimate goal of dermal fillers is to restore your beauty and confidence by making you look your natural best.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Dermal fillers last between six to eighteen months according to the product used and the depth at which the dermal fillers are placed. Face Value currently refrains from using permanent dermal fillers due to the fact that although generally safe, if complications do arise after a dermal fillers treatment, they sadly are often more prolonged and hence more traumatic.

Are There Any Side Effects From Dermal Fillers?

The most common side effects from a treatment with dermal fillers is temporary discomfort. Additional side effects from dermal fillers can include the possible bruising and swelling of the treated area. It is advised that you refrain from exercising immediately before and after a treatment with dermal fillers. It is also advised that you avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatories for two weeks before a dermal fillers are used, to minimise the occurrence of bruising. Although it is very unusual with temporary dermal fillers to have problems after the first two days, it is rare but still possible to have an allergy to dermal fillers develop. In the unlikely event of residual lumps or an over-correction of a wrinkle fold or lip after a dermal fillers treatment, Face Value can use hylase to dissolve quickly the excess dermal filler and correct the problem.

Are Dermal Fillers Painful?

When it comes to dermal fillers, here at Face Value we the take time to assess appropriate pain relief, if any is needed, at the time of a dermal fillers treatment. It is not uncommon for clients not to need any local anaesthesia for dermal fillers, however, in the area of the lip we use topical anaesthetic to minimise discomfort. At Face Value the “no pain no gain” philosophy does not apply to dermal fillers! We know that if your dermal filler procedure is an unpleasant experience you won't be likely to have on-going treatments.

What Is The Cost Of Dermal Fillers?

The cost of dermal fillers varies from $450 for 0.5ml to $750 for 1ml according to the product used. We offer an obligation free consultation to plan the dermal fillers treatment course and fully advise of the maximal costs prior to any dermal fillers procedure, so there will not be any surprises

How Is A Treatment With Dermal Fillers Different From A Treatment With Botulinum Toxin?

Dermal fillers are used as an injectable gel to provide additional volume to the skin. Dermal fillers reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and the dermal fillers gel provides volume to areas that may have lost volume, such as sunken cheeks. Wrinkle relaxers (botulinum toxin) differ from dermal fillers in that they are injected to reduce muscle movement, which in turn is a means of preventing wrinkles from forming. Where dermal fillers would add volume to firm the face, Botulinum Toxin reduces the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the skin.
