FAQs
Dermal Filler FAQs:
How long does it take for the treatments
to work? The procedure takes about 10-20
minutes and the results are instant.
What can and can't I do after the
treatment? You can carry on life
as normal as any redness can be covered
with makeup. You should leave the treated
area alone for 48hours to let it settle.
It is advisable to not have a facial or
similar treatment that may disturb the products
or expose the newly treated areas to strong
sunlight for 2-3 days.
How long does the treatment last for? About 6-9 months.
How often will I need to top up? Most
patients have top ups when they feel the
effect is starting to wear off i.e. anytime
between 6 and 12 months.
Are there any side effects? After
the treatment there may be some redness
and swelling which normally settles in 1-2
days. Very occasionally patients can suffer
some bruising at the injection site.
Who is suitable for these treatments? Almost
everyone apart from those who are pregnant
or breastfeeding.
What happens if I do not have a top
up? Correction of the wrinkles and
the enhanced lip effect will subside gradually
until your skin looks like it did before
the treatment.
Are there any long term problems? No,
because the product used is completely natural and over
time can be completely broken down by the
body.
Are the injections painful? No,
as doctors carry out all the treatments we are
able to use local anaesthetic injections
which allow the treatment to be painfree
and comfortable.
Can it be used with botox? Yes,
sometimes to create the best effect they
can be used together.
Botox® / Dysport® FAQs
What are its uses? Botox® and
Dysport® are used for treating frown lines,
forehead furrows, eye lines (crows feet),
lip (smoker) lines, down turned mouths and
dimple chins. These products are also used for preventing
excessive perspiration in under arms and
hands.
Is it safe? Yes it has been
approved by the FDA for cosmetic use and
has been used for over 30 years without
any known long term problems.
How does it work? The Botulimum
toxin blocks the nerve transmission to the
muscles under the skin. Facial lines formed
by the dynamic action of underlying muscles
will then diminish or disappear.
Who is suitable for Botulinum toxin? It
is suitable for most people apart from those
who are pregnant or breast feeding.
Are the injections painful? Not
really, most people only experience a mild
temporary discomfort.
How will I look after the treatment? There
is a slight redness immediately after treatment which
settles within a few hours. Application
of ice to the area helps. Any redness is easily covered with
makeup.
What can and can't I do after the
treatment? Within 4 hours of the
treatment people are advised not to do vigorous
exercise, drink excessive alcohol or lie
down flat. Otherwise life can carry on as
normal.
When will I notice a difference? It
starts to work in about 3-5 days. The greatest
effect is seen after about 1-2 weeks.
How long will it last? 3-6
months depending on each individual's response.
Repeat treatments have been shown to last
longer.
Does it leave me my face numb? No.
There is no sensation change to your skin.
What are the side effects? It
is a very safe treatment. However side effects
can occur but are rare. They can include
slight bruising at the injection site, and
in rare cases lid ptosis, (slight drooping
of the eyelid which would only last for
up to four weeks).
Will it 'freeze my face' and leave
me expressionless? No, definitely
not. Specific training enables practioners to
minimise any possible loss of facial expression
by injecting specific muscles responsible
for the wrinkles.
